Educate, Act and Share Sustainably for Climate and Environmental Health — an Erasmus+ learning event bringing together teachers from France, Germany, Romania and neighbouring countries to train with real weather stations, sensors, seismometers and spectrometers in the field.

An opening session introducing the EASE project, its objectives, and the role of the Romanian Summer School as a learning and testing event. Covers the structure of the week, expected outcomes and how teacher training, educational resources and monitoring instruments connect to pilot-school implementation.

Participants will be able toUnderstand the project's purpose and structure, see how the sessions connect, and recognise their role in testing and later transferring EASE resources to their own schools.

02 Measuring a Changing Climate — Part 1 10:00–11:00

The scientific grounding for the week's practical work: the difference between weather and climate, and how observation has evolved from historical records to modern instrumental datasets.

Participants will be able toDistinguish weather variability from climate trends, and recognise how monitoring approaches have changed over time.

The core atmospheric parameters — temperature, pressure, humidity, precipitation, wind, solar radiation — and why data quality, continuity and comparability matter for reliable climate interpretation.

04 "Dissecting" the Monitoring Instruments 13:30–16:00
Trainers: Dr Eduard Năstase, Dr Mihai Boni & Alexandru Macovei — NIEP

Hands-on exploration of the instruments used throughout the week — weather stations, environmental sensors, educational seismometers and spectrometry-related devices — examined as modular, open systems. Strong emphasis on 3D printing and digital fabrication for building low-cost DIY instruments, plus good practice for station siting and installation.

Participants will be able toIdentify each instrument's components and function, weigh the pros and cons of DIY educational instruments, and spot common installation errors before setting up a school station.

05 Monitoring Instruments in the Field: Pâclele Mici Mud Volcanoes 17:00–20:00

A field visit to a real monitoring site at the Pâclele Mici Mud Volcanoes, observing professional and educational meteorological, seismic and GNSS equipment in place. Discussion of how exposure, topography and local conditions shape data quality, with access to selected datasets recorded on site.

Participants will be able toRecognise field-monitoring equipment in situ, judge whether a site is suitable for a given measurement, and connect local topography and surface conditions to microclimate and data bias.

From Scientific Instruments to Classroom & Field Inquiry

01 Parallel Hands-On Workshops — session 1 09:00–10:15
Trainers: Dr Eduard Năstase, Dr Mihai Boni & Alexandru Macovei — NIEP

First rotation of two parallel workshops built around the workflow build or examine → measure → observe → analyse → interpret → communicate, each combining a main hands-on activity with shorter demonstration stations.

Workshop 1 — Spectrometry & meteorologySTEAM activities: build or examine a low-cost 3D-printed spectrometer, read spectra from different light sources, link optics to solar radiation and atmospheric monitoring.
Workshop 2 — SeismologySTEAM activities (activity 1 from the resource guide): assemble a DIY seismometer, generate controlled vibrations and separate signal from local noise.

03 From Scientific Concepts to Classroom Activities 12:00–13:30
Instructor: Joshua Biro — Teacher

Turning scientific instruments into meaningful classroom learning. Explores how a weather station, rain gauge, seismometer or sensor can anchor an inquiry activity — defining a clear question, choosing achievable outcomes, using low-cost materials, and designing a genuine final product for students.

Session outputEach participant sketches a short classroom activity: instrument or concept, one inquiry question, data to collect, student task, final product, and one limitation to discuss.

04 Field Learning Circuit: Reading Environmental & Geological Change 15:00–18:00
Trainers: EASE Summer School scientific and educational team

Earth Learning Ideas on the ground — a guided circuit stopping at sites chosen for their geological and environmental relevance. At each stop, short observations and measurements connect present-day evidence — erosion, vegetation, microclimate — to the landscape's geological and climatic history.

Participants will be able toRun simple field-observation protocols, compare conditions across sites, and design a short, transferable field activity for their own students.

What to bring

Part classroom, part field trip — pack for both.

  • Sturdy field shoes — the programme includes site visits to the mud volcanoes and a geology field circuit
  • Laptop, if possible
